If you want to see if the Founding Fathers intended for democracy. Consult Article 4 section 4 of the Constitution, Federalist Paper 10, and James Madison's extensive notes of the Constitutional Convention.

James Madison: "The big threat to our rights today is not the government subverting the will of the majority but becoming the mere instrument of this majority".
