Question -Do you own 6.2 or 3.0 Duramax. Which one is better?

About this video:
GM has a few full-size half-ton offroad options available in their Chevrolet and GMC brands. However, it can be a little confusing as there are off-road packages like the Z71 and X31 that can be added to many trims of Chevys and GMCs respectively. Not to be confused with the different off-road specific trims available like the Trail Boss, ZR2, AT4 , and AT4X. Today I'll be covering the Chevy Silverado 1500 (GMC Sierra 1500) in the Trail Boss 6.2L V8 and ZR2 3.0L Duramax diesel trims. I'll break down what Z71 is compared to the Trail Boss and ZR2 and I'll cover the different engine options along with other key differences to help you decide which one is right for you.

23’ ZR2 owner with 17k on the dash. No issue. Ever. I work as a mobile nurse so I travel 80-90 miles a day and I turn off and start my truck 7-8 times a day. Michigan weather throws everything at it. I had no other choice but the 6.2 or else I may have opted to get that baby duramax. Depends on how I drive the 6.2 but I’d say you aren’t getting much favors from the ZR2 stance. Badass looking but I’ve averaged 16.5 with plenty of pulls here and there. Overall it’s been a great family truck/work truck and overall badass daily.

Here in Uruguay the Z71 comes with 3.0 duramax. And diesel heres is 30% per cent cheaper than gasoline. Its an incredible truck. I love it

Thanks for the video. I bought a ZR2 with a Duramax yesterday. I drove it around town for about 50 miles, and the gas mileage is unbelievable! Just driving around town I was already above 20 mpg, and I do a lot of highway driving, so I can only imagine what the mpg and range will be like. The guys at the dealership even mentioned that some ZR2 owners are trading in their 6.2 for the Duramax. So thanks again for the info because it really helped me make a good decision 🎉

Just bought a 24 Trail Boss with the 3.0L Duramax. Absolutely in love with the truck. Added the 2” ready lift kit and 35s. Truck drives really smooth and gets unreal mileage for a full size pickup.

Bought a 2024 Trailboss with the Duramax. Got 24, 000 kms on it now and I absolutely love this truck. I traded a RST with the 6.2 and the only thing I miss is the top end passing power. The Duramax in the low end is as good or better. All in all the 3.0L Duramax is awesome 👏🏻

I would've gone the same route as you on this truck. It's got everything I'll ever need.

If your worried about gas efficiency then your not looking for the 6.2L V8. I’ve modified my 2023 Trailboss 6.2 with an AWE exhaust, SB cold intake. You gotta love that V8 symphony on a cold start. On the list is a whipple supercharger.

Great Video! I have had the 2020 5.3 Trail Boss leveled on 35s. and recently bought the 2024 Z71 RST 5.3L 10 speed with a 6” lift and 20 x 10s. Was a hard pick between the 5.3 & 3.0 2024 but I live in the city, so long term the gas engine felt like it would be better for fuel costs and regen which is hard to achieve where I live with a diesel engine if I don’t get out on the highway and really run it. This video was awesome I really enjoyed it.

The antenna is still available because it is still the best design available for AM signals. Rural Americans are still are large demographic of pickup buyers

This is really good. That's not what I expected. This was nicely done. I really like the stance of the old one 😮

Gas vs diesel price should be minimal as well because I believe the 6.2 requires 91 octane or better.

The antena is more of a clearance safety feature for when you drive into parking structures very useful especially if you have a lift.

Great video! I agree that the GMC’s front end looks better than the Chevy and the overall the Chevy is a better value. Love my 23 RST with the 5.3 would definitely consider the 3.0 for the gas mileage and the 6.2.

I love my 2020 6.2L 10 speed AT4. I want to move to a HD ZR2 or AT4X with 6.6 gasser.
I am an old fat guy. The tailgate makes a good bench.
