Store water in total darkness and you should be fine. I would put water in glass in the sun for a few hours, but not in PET plastic.

Peroxide and Nano Silver is also an option for storage. One ounce per 5 gallons. Or transfer to glass jugs, then set out in the sun. Even bpa free plastics will still bleed.

I would use water stored in these 5 gallon jugs only for hand washing and toilet flushing, not for drinking. I have about 10 of them that I switch out every 6 months, using it to water the garden and filling it up with normal tap water. In case of emergency, it would be my backup that I could boil and/or run through a filtration system. Hope it never comes to that 🙏

You can also boil the water first right?

This is called the sodis method and is only recommended for no more than 3 liters at a time and the bottles must be clear not tinted at all and its 6hrs of direct sunlight or 2 days if its cloudy.

In a bad situation the last thing i would worry about is bpa.

I doubt there would be any concerns or issues if you bought these water bottles and you had a Berkey water filter to use as soon as you open one of the bottles. Even though the water was clean and sanitary when it was bottled to eliminate any chance of bacterial growth affecting you, just filter the water you get from these bottles as soon as you open the lid. Thoughts?

so if we have water in a plastic bottle we can pour it into a glass mason jar, seal it and leave it in the sun and the water will be completely safe and drinkable???

Yes the sun is a sterilizer but I'm thinking of the plastic from the 5 gallon primo but it doesn't say BPA free
jug getting warm and heating up and leaching into the water how about that?

I have water stored in clean 5 gallon food grade buckets with sealed lids. I don't have room inside our house, so these are outside in the shade. If we had to use, what would you do to treat? Bleach, boil, sun? All three? Anything else? Thank you.

Please help me Hi I have 5 gallon collapsible polypropylene food grade water storage containers.  And I have the Aquamira 2 part Chlorine Dioxide treatment.
I'll be using city water from the tap. I have to treat it because in our area it's very contaminated.  How do I treat the water prep the gallon containers the right way?
I read the polypropylene breaks down and can't handle chlorine or Bleach?
Can I still use these containers with this aquamira treatment? Will it poison us? Or make the containers leach chemicals?
Also let's say it can be used how do I start?
Wash each container soap and water rinse. Do I  splash each container with Bleach? Then add the tap water then add the drops of treatment?  Do i have to boil tge water first or can it go straight from the tap? Or should i just buy distilled water instead? Then treat it with drops? The goal is for long term storage for hopefully 2-3 + years if possible. Ill be doing multiple containers want to do it right. Thanks

Excellent video! What do you do if you have many very old cases of bottled water you can’t bring outside? Should I refill each bottle with tap water and treat each bottle with something then seal? Would they be okay after doing that? If so how much bleach for each 16 ounce water bottle? Thanks so much!

I have a question. I have a 5 gallon that I use for my daily water, not even stores water. I bought a water dispenser pump but the straw that goes in to help pump out the water is always slimy. Why is that? Its filter water I buy from a machine. I boiled the straw the first time I used it.
