I'm marine who served 83 to 87. no combat at all. started meeting and talking to soldiers and marines that went to gulf 1, and 2, and afganistan. most seemed fine, some were obviously hurt, damaged. have always felt less that i never heard a shot in anger. that's just the way it is. recently joined a local marine corps league honor guard to honor the fallen and those falling off roll call. maybe it will make me feel different.

A very excellent movie. I think most especially because it didn't preach a damn thing... It just presented a very. VERY dignified respect of the journey.

I saw this movie shortly after it came out on HBO, and I haven't forgotten it since. The story of the escorts is one I'd heard before, so I was trying not to let it get to me. It wasn't until the line of vehicles turned their headlights on, that the movie really hit me. I couldn't hold it in, my emotions got the best of me. I still tear up every time I see that scene in the movie.

Awesome narrative and the ‘witness’ part lives with many of us. Thanks for putting many things in perspective and you for your service in the USMC. Kevin Bacon nailed it!

I'm an OIF and OEF Vet. in 2014, I was a "trained" Army CAO. My name came up on the DA-6 to help a family on the same night my son attempted suicide. I asked to be relieved of duty, and was granted the relief. My place of duty was at home. For once. As it turns out, the soldier came home during one of our Government Shutdown crises, so immediate financial assistance was complicated. Shameful, but I was not there to help. LtCol Strobls, I salute you.

Kurt Meyer. My dad fought with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders. Chance was like those 11 men executed by Meyer SS on D-Day+1. We are all allied forces.

Thanks for your service. My son, a fourth generation sailor, served on the funeral detail. Made me proud to have our military stand up and provide this service to our hero's. Attended a few law enforcement "End of Watch" ceremony. Makes your heart sink into the ground. West Wind was a very good show.

Sometimes the narration that’s offered with a video like this can seem clumsy or insensitive. Not so so here. I’m a Vietnam era Navy veteran and respect you for keeping this focused. I cannot to this day watch this video and not experience that same deep well of emotion at the passing of this brave young Marine and Kevin Bacon’s sensitive and outstanding portrayal of a man tasked with a very deep and sobering duty to a fallen warrior. Having experienced similar events during my time in the service to our country I can fully understand the play of emotions. 🫡🇺🇸

It has been over forty years, and I still have nightmares of watching Dana die. I still blame myself and always will. This movie drove home the reason why, yet the pain will still linger. It does ease after the years but will never totally leave me. Dana proudly served in the USAF 1723rd CCS det 2. I was his section leader. He was a proud American. I am so sorry Dana, it should have been me and not you.
