I've been living this for the last four months. I had never heard of breadcrumbing before. Initially, I was empathetic because I thought he was depressed due to life events. What a fool I was. I sent him packing, although I will admit I miss all the love-bombing and attention. It took me ten years after my husband died to let anyone in, and this is what I let through the door. The reason breadcrumbing works is because they are triggering your dopamine response. This is the same mechanism casinos use with their slot machines to keep you sitting there pulling that lever. The occasional and unscheduled reward is what makes you think there's more to come.
I recently got myself out of a situation like this. I had known for a while that this was happening, but like the character Beowulf I was happy to keep the fantasy going. After our last afternoon delight, I pulled out a similar video and made her watch it. She would look at me and smile and then turn to the video and her face would become very concerned. I told her this is what you've been doing to me. I told her for many months you're keeping me addicted to you and that day I told her this is how you're doing it, when I showed her the video. The cherry on top was when she left me and got on the train, and I texted her that I needed her to do me a favor. I asked her to block me on her phone so I could never contact her again. It's amazing what happens to your mind when you release yourself from being played with.

This is what happens. Your mind keeps battling with the feelings and eventually if your feelings win, you land yourself in a pit full of sorrow. Just remember, its better to suffer now and instantly move on instead of sticking around and being hurt every single day beating yourself up.

The worst part is they could've just been honest from the beginning but they are so selfish that they wanted to keep you to themselves all while they did whatever they wanted.

Here the process what I think breadcrumbers follow from my experience: I think that they just play very smartly with you like they wish you/ ping you up when they know you are alone and then they can suddenly become the world for you (we suddenly believe that they really care for us and we treat them like queen/king) or they just use you till they need you and then suddenly go silent when they even got the slightest of response of our attraction towards them. We even part ways with our once closed ones for them and then we realise that we are suddenly more alone than before. Now you more and more keep longing for them in a hope they will realise your worth and in between they keep throwing those breadcrumbs just enough to keep your hopes alive. They neither give complete signs of parting away and nor for a future relationship.

This gives a good explanation on breadcrumbers. This summer I realized it more and more that this person only wants me when it's convenient for him, after communicating with him for almost 2 years. The weird thing is he is almost 38 years old. I have no time for that nonsense anymore.
