After one year with 4 expansions and a lot of free content updates age of wonders 4 is better than ever before. With every dlc you got more to play with and the possibilities to build your empire and to play this sandbox game are nearly endless. You got dragons, tentacle monster, bird creatures and so much more.

Overall you don't need the expansions but they enhance this game so much with new gameplay mechanics like realm traits ot victory conditions. The game design is done so well, that each expansion is fitting perfectly into this module sandbox. Over the last year free content updates added many small features to the game and balanced the units quite good so far.
