It's quite simple. One of the missions of each country's leader, is to find common language with the leaders of other countries. America has absolutely no business judging other countries' systems or leaders, because America is neither morally nor legally empowered to do so. First of, the image of Russia and Putin in USA is extremely inaccurate and badly exaggerated, secondly, most Americans neither understand the geopolitics problems and demands Russia had for centuries (which still bother it today) nor do they understand what Russia is from a social, ethnic, cultural, national context, and therefore they do not understand that the American model is incompatible with Russia.
What every smart American must do in the context of this presidential election, is to look for leaders who are primarily interested in establishing a warm relationship with foreign countries, especially if those countries are nuclear powers. This would be a position of classical liberalism, a morally correct and pragmatically beneficial position.
