Tony Pulis talks about how he created the cold Tuesday nights at Stoke City and making the Brittania stadium a fortress. Small narrow field, Rory Delap throws and long grass. Sam Allardyce also talks about how Arsene Wenger's complaints lead to the rule change of the grass length. #shorts #football #soccer #premierleague #epl #sports

Can you do it on a cold night in Stoke? Pulis definitely created Stoke to be a difficult team to play against at home

His impact on the game will never be forgotten. "On a cold rainy night at Stoke" will always be immortalized in football.

And the phrase “Can you do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke?” Was invented.

I'd been going down to Stoke from Warrington Cheshire from about 1971 and saw the greats of the 70s, Hudson, Greenhoff, Banks, etc etc But Tony Pulis gave Stoke on Trent something no Stoke fan thought they would ever see again. Our club in the top flight, scaring the hell out of the bigger more famous clubs - even beating them regularly. From 2007 onwards his tenure was amazing, and for that, Tony Pulis has my eternal gratitude.

As a Palace fan. I have a huge huge HUGE amount of respect and love for Pulis. He was our second premier League manager after Holloway left.. That early on in a Premier League teams life in the league, you can't do much with the players. No matter what you do, you'll have a decent team for the Championship. And a bang average team for the Prem.
He made us play nasty, survival football.. In fact, I think, he was one of the most recent managers to be in the relegation zone at xmas. And pretty much 13th or 14th by the end of the season. Amazing job he did.

One of my personal highlights. A 1-0 win over Chelsea, with zero shots on target..

Similar reasons why Jack Charlton was successful with the Irish team was that he let the grass grow for all home games - nullified those teams who liked to play the passing game.

I always found it strange that Sams Bolton and Pulis Stoke never picked up points against Man United. Turns out both of them were pals with Fergie !

Sir Alex helping out a smaller manager. He knew his team could deal with all the stuff teams could throw at them. His mantra with Hughes Robson Bruce etc was earn the right to play.
