A wilderness area in the USA refers to a protected piece of land that is designated by the government to be preserved in its natural state. These areas are typically characterized by their pristine and undeveloped nature, free from human alterations or permanent structures. Wilderness areas are carefully managed to maintain their ecological integrity, biodiversity, and wilderness values. They provide a haven for native plant and animal species, promote recreational activities like hiking, camping, and wildlife observation, and serve as important spaces for scientific research and education. Wilderness areas in the USA are governed by specific regulations and restrictions to ensure their preservation for future generations.

Thank you for doing a great service educating us, regarding responsible use and protection of the outdoors. Happy trail!

Thanks for that hiking guy! Extremely insightful. Important to know how the public has been able to benefit from the earlier pioneers but what our role is now in order to protect and to grow the wilderness. Once it's gone.... Thanks!

Thank you for pointing out that drones are banned in all Wilderness Areas. I see so many Youtube videos with drone shots inside WAs, and it's maddening because the never-ending industrial noise of suburbia is exactly why we turn to the quiet of Wilderness Areas.

Great info. You deserve many more subscribers. Video idea if you haven't done it already: Differences between Wilderness Areas, National Forests, National Parks (am I missing any?) and how you can be in multiples of those areas and how to know which rules apply. e.g. I'm in a Wilderness area but also in a National Park (or will be traveling through one on my hike) so I can't bring my dog.

Pretty amazing to live in LA and be able, in one day, hike in one of several wilderness areas and be back home by 3:30 PM.

The “idea” is to eventually get us off all the lands, crammed into the cities. No everyone can or wants to walk endless miles to beautiful natural sites.
No one argues about protection and conservation, just keep public access for all.

I say the more the better. They are pretty effective around places like Saint George Utah. Gold Butte was the big debate there in NV.

Youtube has opened up any area in America to all. And side by side 4x4s mean the worst road can now be driven.

BLM in California is areas obliterated. In AZ NV UT Not yet so much but the traffic is incredible since 2009.

Everywhere in the west. There are 4600 miles of roads in the AZ STRIP.

396 maintained. Mojave County AZ maintains its few. 750, 000 miles of barbed wire.

Ot is one of the smallest districts. Attached to UT BLM. Grand Canyon NP. Zion. Lake Mead NRA.

And of course all the way over to Moab too.

NF NPS BLM Reclamation Bureau. State Parks.

So Gold Butte became a line in the sand. And it is where Bundy lives. Lol.

Bunkerville NV area. That road loops around to Whitney Pass via cedar pocket. Very popular with Vegas folks now.

Just like East Sierra is with Reno area. The point. Drive on the roads. Pack it pack it out. Poop is a problem. Big one.
Even in the middle of Sierra Nevada in Season.

Wilderness areas more so. If busy. Less facilities. Ain't many going to Condor Peak.

But it Baldy. Baden and area is heavily used. The next 10 years will see use go way up.

These rules try to mitigate wear and tear. Look at any lake up in Sierras near a trail.

Be the solution.
