Airboat Hunting The Great Salt Lake | Duck Lore

Every year, millions of waterfowl and shorebirds head to The Great Salt Lake to winter and feed on brine shrimp. But, the vast shallow expanses of this lake make access to the birds a challenge. In this episode, Sean Weaver joins his friend Glade Harris, a mechanical guru who more than knows his way around both airboats and ducks. With a brutal cold front colliding with the West, this hunt is far from normal as ice build up takes out decoys, shovelers, and teal alike.

I used to hunt the willard bay area on the great salt lake. That is one magical waterfowl area. Longest it took me to shoot a limit was 2hrs, shortest was 15min. Took longer to set the decoys. Best day was 1 decoy and a limit of ducks in 15min!!!

Good ol Great Salt Lake, such an amazing and diverse area to hunt. Being from Utah I often find myself neglecting to really appreciate how amazing it is. If y’all get a chance to hunt it, take it cause it won’t disappoint.
