Google Pixel Fold REVIEW: Watch Out, Samsung!

The Google Pixel Fold review is here, and Google’s first foldable phone really impresses with its wide front display, superior cameras and intuitive multitasking software. This is also the thinnest foldable yet when open and it sports a smooth and quiet hinge. Based on my testing, the tabletop and tent modes come in handy, and there's plenty of apps optimized for the 7.6-inch screen.

I also put the Pixel Fold up against the Galaxy S23 Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro Max for an in-depth camera comparison. The Pixel Fold isn’t as powerful as the Galaxy Z Fold 4 — and its bezels are a bit large — but overall Samsung should be nervous. Should you buy the Pixel Fold now or wait for the Galaxy Z Fold 5? It's 1800 bucks, but I got an 800 dollar trade in for my Galaxy Fold 4, which I bought for 800 about 1.5 years ago, plus Google threw in a $350 Pixel Watch for free. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Still gotta give it to Samsung. Better customization of both displays, soon to be 5 years of hardware experience and the ability to scale up any app instead of awkward pillar boxing on nearly everything. Still a win for Google here is a win for foldables in general, hopefully they continue to improve over time.

How did you determine the Pixel Fold's displays to be more accurate when the Delta E values for the Z Fold 4 are closer to zero? Do you guys understand how to read those values?

@ 2:42 you show a YouTube video before manually zooming. What is the "screen" size of this? In other words, is that non zoomed view a similar size to say a pixel 7 pro which is 6.7 inches?

Quick question: does the Pixel Fold support dual eSIM dual standby like the Pixel 7 series? Anyone managed to test this?

3:14 split screen navigation…i like the drag drop between the google apps. The not yet optimized apps like Slack also aren’t yet adapted on the new Google Pixel tablet. 8:10 For such a high price, and poor graphics support…waiting

great review the pixel fold is an amazing phone yes it is but it's not the best foldable that's still the Galaxy Fold 4 and when the 5 comes out it's gonna be even better. users are only saying it's better cause of the front screen and yes it has a better front screen but the galaxy fold does so much more better and takes advantage of it as a foldable phone. The fold can also summon multi window with a 2 finger swipe from the edge on top of the taskbar and multitasking page methods

This is a Surface Duo with a front screen and slightly smaller.... That design and hinge look almost identical, so much so that makes me wonder if Google just bought the design from Microsoft...

One more question, does it come pre installed with a screen protector for inside and/or outside screen?

The biggest flex that Google can flex on this phone is that it's a first gen product and the Samsung Galaxy 4 and 5 is going under 5th gen product. This is Google's first and it's this good. Imagine if it would have been there fourth or 5th. That would be a lot more ahead of the game. And from what I'm hearing, 103 is going to be a much much more powerful CPU GPU combination Google's really pushing their hardware game. I'm impressed and honestly most carriers are probably going to be having some kind of crazy deal when you get like 50% off. I know Verizon they're going to be. I think they're giving you like $1, 000 off so you're only going to really really be paying like 800 bucks for it. That's an amazing deal and you have. You can trade it almost any pixel phone for that deal. That's a really really good deal to get $1, 000 off a brand new phone by trading it an old pixel. Oh yeah sign me up. I got a bunch of old pixels at home because I've had every pixel since the first one. That's why I've been getting all my pixels lately. I've been trading them in

Is there a mode for pictures where BOTH screens are on when unfolded? Use case being I want to take a picture of someone, and I want to see the shot im about to take, but the person being fotographed can see themselves as well.

Why is it that NONE of these hyped up hyping influencers mention anything about audio quality - how do movies sound - how does music sound - how do phone calls sound ??? Does it get loud enough ? How is the clarity ?

I dont like how some common apps do not open full screen in the inner display of the pixel fold like twitter and instagram. Those apps can open full screen in my z fold 4 no problem so google should be able to do it too. The huge bezels also make it look cheap when you try to use it in portrait orientation for apps that do not support landscape by default. I prefer the ipad like aspect ratio of the z fold 4 inner screen than the more landscape one of the pixel fold.

Marques Brownlee reports only 4 hours or so screen on-time. That’s concerning as I’ve pre-ordered.
