How to Regrow Grocery Store Herbs

Why pay for herbs when you can grow your own so easily? In this video we're taking herbs from the grocery store and regrowing them into full plants! Through water propagation, we can get roots on our cuttings and set up a perpetual cycle of new plants which we can harvest from. These methods work for a variety of herbs (and other plants) including basil, rosemary, mint and sage. Having fresh herbs available is a great way to improve any meal and the taste of fresh harvests can not be overstated!

Let me know how you grow your herbs in the comments below!

Seems like a legit way to get what you want without waiting for seeds. Could be done with potted plants from the nursery to get more variety ( my store is always out of fresh herbs) experiments where stem was split before propagated yielded more roots along all surfaces.
Thanks for reminding me. I lost my herbs to summer heat and want to retry with hydroponic. I have to go to Lowes for a fence post, ill pick up some small herb plants, hydroppropagate some stems and pot up the rest of the plant, best of both worlds.
Edit to add: im doing this with catnip and basil. I intend to plant sprouts all around my yard to deter deer. 2st 2 years I grew basil among other fruiting plants, no problem. Third year I grew no basil, and deer stripped and chomped every plant bare. Deer don't like mint plants so I am growing an abundance of catnip and basil to protect my other plantings like tomato and green leafy plants. The cats and Italians will love me!

For propagating rosemary make sure the stem is still green.

Rosemary stems should not be woody but green. Cinnamon is a great natural root stimulator

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. I moved to Montréal from Boston and food prices are so high here and so are fresh herbs. I started growing Thai basil that I had purchased and leaves are already forming in 3 days!! And can you tell is where you purchased the little tiny black baskets that you let the sprigs rest in? And why clay tablets? I think I will give the hydroponic route a try.
Also, is city water okay for these plants? I typically use tap water but allow it to set in a large bowl to get rid of the chemicals they add to make sure it’s drinkable, and run it thru a filter—but is there a way to harvest tap water for growing herbs this way?

very good and cheap tutorial for persons, who haven't much place in house and time to care about seeds and seedlings. I using hydroponics for herbs (i using canna aqua vega fertilizers), it look very good on windowsill.
