Scary sound in the forests of South Africa

A normal visit to my local mountain forest turns into a scary situation when an unexplainable noise comes out of nowhere.

Just to be clear for those who might have missed it in the comments. We've since established the origin of the sound. It was a mechanical (leopard) roar played over a hidden speaker. Used by the local baboon watch to keep baboons from coming down the mountain into the suburbs. Not sure if it actually works on baboons, it sure worked on me😅

The last breath of that vocalization as it pushed out I could hear it was close. I'd thought it was further away. Really good thing he left. I don't think I'd like to have waited around to find out what made it.
Time to nope out of there.

We don’t know what’s out there in the woods but all the unknown sounds people recorded in the woods can be the sounds of new or extinct animals
