Les Miserables: A Discussion of Why The Miniseries is Better Than Any Movie

Les Miserables is always a sad story, but in the Masterpiece Theater version featuring Dominic West, Lily Collins, David Oyewolo, and Olivia Coleman you get to see glimmers of cheer. Don't get me wrong, it's depressing as all get out, but you understand who the characters are making the series worth a watch.

This was definitely the best version of les miserables.

I finally read this book after years of being afraid of it because it was so thick. It took me just over three months of reading every night. It was some tough going at times, but I have to say it is one of the best books I've ever read 🙂👍

When I read LM miniseries I worried someone was gonna finally get the film translation right. They did less badly than everyone else, but what a relief they didn't Peter Jackson it.
Six hours is still impossibly inadequate. Hugo published the story as five separate volumes with different release dates. Closest modern comparison is Harry Potter series.
It took 130 years for anyone (Julie Rose) to finally *nail* the English translation of his text. Screenplay translators are still in 19th century Charles Wilbour territory with this masterpiece.

Her going on about how having black people in the cast is so progressive annoys the shit out of me. Having a diverse cast is nice, but it doesn't make the actors better.

And your line about money being the root of all evil... that is one of the most misquoted verses in the Bible. It actually says that the LOVE OF money is the root of all evil.

Nah, they completely fucked up JVJs character arc, Javerts characterisation, les amis, and why did they give Marius a weird wet dream about éponine?

But I liked how they included fantines time with tholomyes, gave roles to poc and showed the whole Marius drama with gillenormand and georges pontmercy

Awesome series! But please stop the "people of colour ' (sic) crap. I have a pretty good tan, does that make me a "people of colour?
