Ran an Ultra 50 this weekend with this guy. It was my first, I don't know the Stash Pocket life, but the front pockets were more than enough to hold my gloves, hat, head lamp, and a bunch of snacks. Everything up front expanded a ton and didn't move all at. Even with the 2 flasks filled up, I was still able to jam a ton of stuff in those front pockets without having to stop running. Tightens up great on the fly and while wearing a tank top underneath I didn't get any rubbing or chafing. Love this thing so far!

For all the stated reasons, I can’t see myself upgrading to the new version. Thinking back now on many early morning runs stowing my gloves first then jacket in that pocket without missing a step.

I still love my older version. Thanks for the info on the new one

Agree with everything you said here 👍 Stash pocket is taking a couple steps back

Stash pocket is a dealbreaker to me . I live in the Canadian Rockies, fast -easy access to a first layer gortex is a must

Never tried the old version but the new one is so well-fitting I barely noticed it on my marathon. I carried an extra pair of shorts in the bottom pocket and a 2L water bladder too.

It's great that companies are updating the zippers on their vests cause those zippers malfunction easily. I have a nathan vest and had to update the zipper. This Salomon vest looks like a good upgrade.

That stash pocket was clutch, but the fabric upgrades may offset that since the former did irritate my skin. Thank you for the comprehensive review!

Well explained, thanks for the video 😅

My zippers broke too and I got them upgraded by a local alterations shop. Only £30 - much better than buying a new vest!!

Old (2024) version. I add 2 press studs to the shoulder pockets on the old version. Easy to sew these on. That done they securely fit things you might need. For example, they each will then hold 2 buffs - so quite a lot of useful extra accessible space. I store the first aid kit in one and sun cream/sanitary stuff/proper whistle in the other.

Great review, the stash pocket was the reason i upgraded to the now older version.

I am so glad I stumbled on your video. I will not buy this new vest without the stash pocket. My favorite feature of the previous model is the stash pocket and I use it all the time. I absolutely hate having to take my vest off mid run if at all possible. Sigh.

Totally agree, the top back pocket was great and the tunnel pocket was larger. I find the access of that tunnel pocket much easier though and prefer the comfort of the material on the new version. The quick link attachment system is much improved too.

I bought the 2025 version when it came out in January. The previous version was too scratchy for me, so I opted for the update model with the smoother material. I would've loved if they kept the stash and trash pockets, but comfort is more important to me and I've not had the previous version so I don't really know what I'm missing 😁

Thanks. After seeing your review. I ordered a spare one of the old version.

Great review
Very nuanced in the description and I learned much about the vest. I plan to get this vest and I have never used the previous version … so I’ll have no buyer’s remorse 😮! Thank you Steven

I just love this vest (old version). One of my best outdoor gear purchases ever! Looks like the new one is a nice upgrade. Probably the zipper pulls are the best part. I’ll likely wait though, as my old one is in good shape. As far as the stash pocket goes, I did not even know about it until I watched this video! 😅

I also have this newer ADV Skin 12 pack as well and an older ADV Skin 12 model from years past (and the prior model ADV Skin 5). I like them all and they each offer subtle differences and advantages. The new 2025 ADV Skin 12 vest is still the vest to beat IMO. That said, I do miss that top stash pocket but feel that the other changes are largely an improvement. Like you said, if you need to buy a new vest, the 2025 ADV Skin 12 is worth getting. Cheers!

The stash pocket is absolutely my favorite part of the previous version. Despite all the other upgrades, I don't know if I'd consider this an overall improvement with the removal of the stash pocket.
