I totally agree. It’s about time someone said this. We are all going crazy buying more than we need. Me included. Thank you!

It's crazy how we glorify mindless consumerism

100% agree with you ❤

All these “hauls” (cosmetics, skincare, clothes - and the worst possible, the popular “shein hauls” 🤢) are just glamorized hoarding behavior.

Plus, there is NO WAY that a person can finish all these products before their expiration. It’s pure waste.

Last year I started to consciously not buy products and use up everything I had. It was a bit difficult at first but its now infinitely more satisfying now getting to the last drops of a product knowing I used it fully.

Normalize buying new makeup only when you've used the whole thing.

Thank you so much for this video. Even I realized the burden of buying so many skincare products. It affected my bank balance. Plus I wasn't able to use it all. Now I'm following influencers like you. It made me realize less is more. It gives me the chance to use the product fully and enjoy it one at a time. Plus saves money.

I’ve always wondered this. Most products have a shelf life and I get wanting to try new things but I wonder if people are wearing expired/old products.

I reduced my makeup to a travel bag and realized that’s all I need. Everything else I rarely touch.

The effects of YouTube/Instagram beauty guru culture is still being felt. Every page was reviewing some new palette every other day as if they would actually use it frequently, “RUN to Sephora it’s SOOO pigmented!”

I wouldn’t say 6 products lol but we certainly don’t need to have the entire Sephora store in our homes. It looks crazy. If you’re a MUA or a celeb maybe you need more than the average person, but I agree no one needs that much and it makes me uncomfortable seeing it.

Totally agree!! I’m guilty of indulging my daughter but I did the simple MATH of what I’ve bought her through these years…..ugghh! Told her I won’t buy new stuff until it’s all used up for that category. No one needs 6 foundations and 10 blushes!

I agree that it’s mind-boggling to have so, SO much more than one person can use or finish. However, I feel like there is a difference between 6 products and “hoarding this many products.” To like makeup and to own a reasonable amount of it is… similar to liking clothes and owning a reasonable amount of it.

What’s comical is that make up expires and becomes not safe to use yet it doesn’t seem to be reflected in peoples large quantities of makeup in their collection 😅

Can confirm! I replaced my pallettes with 3 singles of the eyeshadow i actually use! Some people like to change it up daily, but when i realised i am not one of those people, its like a lihhtnulb went off in my head

Makeup is my hobby so I don’t mind buying new things. But I mainly focus on eye and lip products because that’s where I get to be artistic. My other products are pretty bare bones. 1 concealer, 1 foundation, 2 blushes

I do like more eye-catching makeup and love to try new look so I have more than 6 products but you're 100% right that we buy way too much. I only truly need 10-12 products in my routine (primer, flixer, powder, 3 palettes of eye shadow (warm tones, fun colors and sparkle), mascara, eyeliner, brown lipstick, tinted moisturizer)

Influencers like those you featured are also mostly gifted those items and they do giveaways. I have a nice collection of makeup because it's my hobby and I enjoy it. There's no shame in being minimal like you and no shame in being an enthusiast like me.

The only thing we need in 2024 is to lose the weight of other people's expectations. You do you, I'll do me and we'll both be happy!

That was me in high school. Constant influx of seeing influencers try this and this and doing this makeup look with this etc. Then seeing THEIR makeup room and stash I thought it was normal. I was a major couponer though and mine was all drugstore. But still. I did not need that much. Ten years later I still have some of it because I feel guilty throwing it away 😅

I’m a little older, when I was 20 years old I remember just having 4 items for my make up. Lipstick, eyeliner, mascara and foundation. In fact I had more than my female friends. I know this because they used to comment about how much makeup I wear. Now people have furnitures pack with makeup. Makes you wonder how easy people are manipulating into buying. All in less than 10 years.

It does depend on what your desired aesthetic is. Some looks require more products and more brushes. But i do agree an entire room full is a lot. However, everyone collects something so as long as its not bankrupting you or youre constantly asking to borrow money or take loans, do what makes you happy.
