List of Tips and Examples:

50 Painting on the sketch layer causes... problems... but we have CTRL+Z (undo) for a reason.
Unless you're going for a specific effect, always make sure to put distinctive painting elements on separate layers.

15 5:27 When working on multiple paintings that share an art style, it helps to keep the other images as thumbnail size examples on the side of your canvas for color sampling and references.

25 Be willing to experiment with a painting. Especially, with digital art, you can always change your mind later. Never let the fear of losing the artwork in front of you hold you back from attempting an improvement (speaking from experience). Side Note: I like to keep big changes on a separate layer for easy comparison. But, as soon as I decide I like what I see, I commit to my changes by merging layers.

12 19:54 "Final touches"; it's what I call the last stage of my painting process. It's where I make all the last minute fixes. This step ranges from fixes, to detailing, to final lighting. These last minute alterations clean an image up, and bring a painting's disjointed focal points to the forefront.

46 Lighting is one of the most important parts of a painting, and one of the most complex topics to learn. There are a lot of sub-topics within, from "subsurface scattering" to "material based reflections"; far too many to cover in this art style and this one section of video. If I were to boil it down to what I feel would be the most useful tip: Practice visualization! More specifically, to paint good lighting, you have to have a solid understanding of your object and your light source's position in three dimensional space. So, I like to close my eyes to visualize the scene I'm going to paint. Visualization, of course, will only get you so far without an understanding of the other aspects of lighting. Like I said, this topic is more than I can go over in a single part of a video, and if I'm being honest, I'm still learning and improving with every project!

38 Setting the outline's blending mode to overlay can help to quickly add some relative color.

04 When painting something, or some character against a backdrop, you can add a drop-shadow to give your subject more separation. This not only shows depth in an image, but also allows the subject to pop.

05 Adding more drips to a watercolor painting at a later step (and on a separate layer) allowed me to prevent muddying my colors and give it my full attention.

15 Glass is a interesting material to paint, of course there is its transparency, but I speak more of its subtle shine and reflections when curved, or the color hue it takes on when looking through the edges, usually a grayish blue-green.

09 Focal points are the viewers entry spot on a painting, the location somebody's eyes will first be drawn to. Getting the focal points just right, goes a long way towards making a good painting.
