INTRODUCTION
Glucose challenge test is performed to screen
gestational diabetes Generally between 24th to
28th week of pregnancy
Sample will be drawn at random condition
. 1 to 2 hours after meal
PROCEDURE OF BLOOD SAMPLING FOR GCT
Give 50 gm glucose in 200 to 250 ml of water to the patient
After an hour draw blood sample There is no need of urine sample
NORMAL RANGE:
80 to 150 mg/dL
CAUSES OF HIGH GCT LEVEL
The elevated blood glucose level in gestational diabetes is caused by hormones released by the placenta during pregnancy. The placenta produces a hormone called the human placental lactogen (HPL), also known as human chorionic somatomammotropin (HCS).
