So, you emphasized laptop a LOT in your video. You should consider rephrasing that or alternating with desktop or, just say computer.

I've picked up used Dell Optiplex computers, added RAM and used either XCP-NG or Proxmox VE on them. Both are Type-1 hypervisor's and available at no cost.

I like that you mentioned OSBoxes, but I find TurnKey Linux and Bitnami to have a better reputation for keeping their VM "appliances" up to date.

Although the cloud is a great option for people with the $$ to spend (after the trial period) running a hypervisor yourself is going to give you a far better understanding.

PS. I have used VMWare since their first product, simply called VMWare was released (later renamed VMWare Workstation). Great product. I just happen to prefer the open source offerings these days.
