It's 2021, haven't had a bug in forever. Need to know if there's a trick to installing the decklid on my '54. Search for it here and POW, of COURSE my reliable old YT instructor for so very long did this. I was so pleased and hit with a wave of nostalgia to see the name "Chris Vallone". Thanks for your work.

Stupid question…
How can I keep the deck lid open without the spring? The spring sits on top of the “dog house” and the metal piece that’s on the car only has one notch in it not 2 😢 we fought with it over the weekend and it’s been a way bigger project than we were expecting

This can become a one person job if you start one bolt on one side. Then hook the spring into the body. Use the decklid as leverage and direct the other side toward the other U mount. Then start a bolt on that side. Put in the other two bolts on either side and then you can make your adjustments.

@Chris Vallone
As useful as this video is, I still find myself needing tips on what the adjustment of the inner hinges of the deck lid will affect. I have an issue where the left side of my deck is slightly lifted, and therefore is not securely pressed against the body.

Thank you for the video Chris, I had been wondering how this was done, I had heard tales from different sources but as usual it was all nonsense, keep up the good work and I look forward to your next news letter!

I could make a video on floors, something in the future yea.  For now there is a video by Rick Higgins on floor pan replacement.  Bugmevideo

Do you have a video on how to replace the trunk latch and cable system??? I’m currently starting to restore my 70’s beetle front trunk area and I’ve been kind of scared of doing the hood since I can’t find at a good video reference.

Excellent video as usual, thank you Chris.

I should have watched this prior to doing it by myself 😂... A second person certainly will make this a simple task. Thanks for the video, it was still helpful.

For a line-up tool, I use a nail set. Buy one that is for the smallest nail. I have several of them in my tool box. Nail set tools available at any hardware store. Thanks for the video!

Hey Chris, who paints your VW's? They all have the greatest shines on the paint!

What color code is on the bug in this guy?

My bug had standoffs from a previous owner & I got rid of 'em & mounted the decklid where it belongs following this video...but I can't for the life of me get the latch to line up now! Any tips? It seems like the latch should be about a half inch lower than it is. My gaps are all good on the deck lid but it does sit ever so slightly lower than the body where the grills are.

My front hood latch (69 Bug) does not work, and I can't open the hood...the cable is hooked up, but does not work. How can I open the hood?
