How to debunk bad arguments: Have Michael's sanity 🗿

Tzimiskes

In short: if someone makes a claim, it's their burden to prove it otherwise it's baseless. Say it with me: IT'S BASELESS

This is just smart to do for any argument. Baseless claims are what turn real debates into pretty arguments.

Bad Argument Source Be Like; "Trust me bro"

That "Christianity causes war" claim reminded me of the fact that out of all 1, 763 recorded wars in history, only 121 (6.87%) had religion as their primary cause.

Frank Turek always says to ask the other person "where did that come from?" "how did you get to that conclusion?"

A professor in a theater class told me that "Christians stole their special garments from Greek theater preformers" I asked him how he came to that conclusion and he said, "well there's not a specific source. It just makes sense" 🤦‍♀️ I'll take stuff that never happened for 500 dollars Alex.

This response will silence about 97% of muslims on YouTube. Its very powerful.

The vast majority of the time when people tell me to "look it up", I'll reply with "your claim, your burden". Either they'll block me, call me lazy, or actually provide an article that is countered with another article.

The perfect video for heading into the holiday season and having to deal with all the nonsense from atheists, neo-pagans, and hyper fundamentalists about Halloween and Christmas (and then eventually Easter). Thanks.

TBH, this works in most instances where somebody claims something wild

When i worked for a department of homeland security lab in New Jersey, i was the only staff member trained in statistics.

I quickly discovered misapplications of statistical methods and violations of quality control principles.

The management team was very defensive and began an attack, which consisted of peraonal attacks and really bad arguments.

I attempted to debunk all of the really bad arguments until i realized it was a waste of time debunking the unsound arguments and poor reasoning of people whose motivations were political and personal.

This was a good short video, succinctly addressing such matters.

You should do a video on biblical repentance because there are some people who don't believe repentance is even biblical and will call you a heretic preaching it

This is excellent advice for anyone on any topic. I would love to see Christians this skeptical of the ressurection.

Asking "what's your source?" to someone making an argument in bad faith or without proper evidence is the metaphorical equivalent of giving them enough rope to hang themselves. You'll know almost immediately if the person is worth engaging, and if he isn't at least you didn't do any heavy lifting.

it's also just generally true that despair is not productive and things are never as bad as they seem
