That is one person who didn't deserve that somewhat empty death. He was a great guy, who was as genuine as his passion and affinity for wildlife was. What you saw of him on screen was what he was off screen. A real gem, and he is still missed today.

RIP Mr Irwin 🙌

If he saw how many stingrays where being killed today he would be absolutely disgusted, he was the type of guy to get bit by a snake put it down carefully and apologize, I think the choice to destroy the footage was the best choice

I remember hearing about Steve Irwin’s death when I was 7. A childhood hero of mine dead so soon. RIP, he lived life to the fullest and will never be forgotten

“Steve did not survive his trip to the hospital….”

Yeah, we know. The barb apparently tore through his thoracic wall….he probably lost like 75% of his blood. It’s so sad……Apparently the people surrounding him were telling him to think of his kids while attempting to save him.

A true loss. You will be remembered, legend Steve Irwin.

Imo it was the right decision to destroy the tape. Wouldn't want others to see if same happened to someone I knew.
An animation like this is enough, imo.

I wasn't ready to see this. I'm in tears over this tragedy almost 2 decades after it happened. The entire world lost a great friend that day.

I am glad the actual video was not posted. I dont think we should remember Steve's last moments. We should remember his life, contribution to nature, Australia and fellow Australians.

Steve ... May you rest in peace always. Your family surely miss you.

I always looked forward to watching Steve's bubbly character. He was a true legend.

He should be featured on the Aussie coin or the $100 note. He presented his t.v. series so well and interesting. Those are the sort of programs we should show our children. R.I.P. Steve.

The "underwater" video that's been going around on YouTube for years, is from a different stingray incident. Not sure if Steve Irwin was involved in that one or if it was somebody else entirely.

all the 70 year old 2000 lbs monster crocodiles couldnt take him out, it was a freakin stingray that managed to land the deadly blow. Ironic and very sad. The man was very influential in ppls lives and chilhoods, RIP Steve

I doubt Steve just "passed over" the ray. Steve knew how dangerous the work he did was and would have known that he should already have been dead 10x over. If you're honest with yourself you have to admit he was probably trying to get as close to the ray as possible whilst filming and looking at the camera.

I still remember going to the store with my mom as a kid and buying Crocodile Hunter VHS's. Steve Irwin was a huge part of my childhood, and now as a 29 year old, it hasn't gotten any easier. I can't imagine how many more amazing things he would have done for animals and their habitats. I can imagine it now.. Steve posting on his Instagram about the amazing animals at his zoo, with his son alongside him and not in place of him. A true legend gone way too soon. RIP Steve Irwin. There will never be another Crocodile Hunter.

The Stingray didn't "UNEXPECTLY" attack. The stingray just thought it was a tiger shark. And tiger sharks do eat stingrays (Along with turtles) Steve Irwin, was hovering over the stingray and following it. It made the stingray nervous, so it went into attack mode. But his death sad. He was idol.
