Great advice! I'd like to add one more. #10 Learn how to do your own repairs. If you own a car, learn how to fix it. I you own a house, learn so basic carpentry, plumbing and electrical. Paying the other guy is usually better than 50% of the bill. If nothing else, they won't be able to take advantage of you quit so easily.

Personally I save about 60% of my take home pay - Live in a sharehouse, drive a cheap car, no alcohol/smoking, don't buy junk, takeaway only once a week

If you want to walk around the mall because you're bored, it's good exercise and that's fine; just leave your wallet in your car though so you can't buy anything without first going all the way back out to your car to get it. That stops impulse buying pretty quickly. ;)

Personally I just pay myself first as soon as I make the first 30-40 percent of my income for the month I put it in savings or invest it. Not going out to eat helps a lot too there's a lot you can cut down on.

Adding to the list: 1. Make a shopping list and stick to it. This will alleviate you falling for the psychological trap that stores have for you to buy thing on sale. 2. Learn how to fix things yourself. Google and YouTube are great resources. There's a mechanic demonstrating how you fix whatever for FREE. 3. Date someone who has the same "money maturity" as you do. They'll encourage you to meet your goals instead of nagging you.

I run a car mechanic/body shop/inspection and car selling family business. Ive personally worked on every single car make by diagnosing cars. Lexus and toyota is 100% the way to go. I have driven 95 percent of bmws, Mercedes, Lexus, Toyota, Acura, Maserati even bentley and rolls etc. Lit nothing beats a lexus. Personally bought a 06 es330. Get a nice a comfy ride, good gas, mileage, air cooled seats, space and most of all reliability.

This is more of a comment to everyone but if I had to list makes by order of more reliable to least
Lexus/toyota
honda/acura
Infinity Ford and chevy trucks
Nissan and some Mazdas
VW, hyundai, Ford trucks
benz, Ford, Chevy, Dodge cars
audi
Mitsubishi
bmw literally the worst car. We currenty have about 7 of them in for repair 2012 and up with crazy amounts of DTC and other probs. With low miles and and good owners still so many messed up BMW's
Not bias because personally with my own hard earned money Ive bought most of these models to sell over 5 years. After 5 years in this business I decided on this Lexus and occasionally still drive other cars that we buy to sell.

Staying single can not help saving money, getting married does. People can save a lot of money when living with their mates. But having children will cost a lot of money indeed.

If you're putting $1, 000 a quarter or every 3 months into an old car to fix it that is $333 a month so pretty much car payment. In this case the math does not work out you might as well buy a new car or semi new car.
