4000 years ago, the ancient Sumerians made a surprising discovery: if they scraped the bark off a particular kind of tree and ate it, their pain disappeared. Little did they know that what they’d found was destined to influence the future course of medicine. Krishna Sudhir traces the history of aspirin.

Lesson by Krishna Sudhir, directed by Artrake Studio.

Another Great animation !
One very important thing to know about aspirin is that If you take it on an empty stomach, you will most likely suffer from stomach irritation. It might affect the inner lining of your stomach and can cause gastric ulcers or bleeding. Keep up the great videos TED ED.
You are a true inspiration for us !

You forgot to say why we use acetylsalicylic acid and not the original salicin or its metabolized form salicylic acid.
The "natural" ones have worse side effects!
The acetyl version reduces the side effects

I have been using willow bark for years in a tea. It's amazing how many things like this are just laying around waiting to be picked up and used.

I've started believing one of the reasons for the success of human race is our willingness to eat absolutely anything!

You know, this is very high quality educational video, even with no music, fast talking or interesting animation(im not a fan of the artstyle but its still good), the video still gets my attention and not boring at all .
