Did EVERYONE forget about INTERNET SAFETY?!

I posted a video about basic internet safety on IG Reels, and it went viral! I'm shocked at how many people in the comments often see others on social media failing to practice internet safety or who experienced negative outcomes themselves from a lack of safe posting habits. It's clear that in this digital world, basic internet safety is not common knowledge!
In this video, I'll be reading comments from the viral video - personal stories, observations, and additions to the discussion.

Those two dudes who replied to you with hate comments are definitely the ones gathering info from these people oversharing on the internet to use for nefarious means.

The ppl who don't think it's a big deal are either ignorant or stalkers themselves

Also as I love “living alone diaries” that needs to stop because telling people that you live alone is very dangerous as a woman. If you going to post with identifiable objects such as windows or door numbers; crop the photo, or close your window curtains and blur out door numbers. As well as not posting pictures of your house, apartment, car and even your last name.

As someone who grew up in the 90's I just will never understand why people are so comfortable sharing so much about themselves online. I think people have just become so complacent because it hasn't happened to them yet.

there was a popular tiktoker who had a break in at her house and proceeded to make a tiktok about it and show all the locations of the new security cameras she had installed to prevent further break ins 🤦🏻‍♀️

Do y’all know that geo guesser guy? He scared me straight into not posting any photos outside on anything other than my private account 💀

I actually messaged an influencer/YouTuber yesterday because they did an unboxing of a package in their video and their home address was on display, whoops.

This made me realize I had a couple identifying things in my socials I needed to remove. This vid is a great reminder to stay vigilant

My mom would refuse to let me wear school merch outside of school in case a stranger saw it on the street, but would post my wholee face, legal name and HOSPITAL VISITS to a “private” facebook 😭 parents perception of privacy and safety is WILD

I think we need to have a refresher on internet safety

The unfortunate thing is the people who NEED to see this video will never see it

The normalisation of snap maps for young adults and teenagers is crazy to me - having a permanent record of where you are for people to find you is insane and should not be allowed. Especially with the new home feature which literally shows everyone when you are at home and your home location. How is this brushed over and not even thought about?

the rise of putting first name last name on social profiles, like instagram. it makes it incredibly easy for people to find you, and for people to do identity theft. It seems the first rule we learnt as kids - “don’t put your name on the internet “ has been forgotten :/. thanks for this video!

saw an instagram reel from a mom a couple months back where she was showing how she makes bath paint, but then showed her 2 children NAKED IN THE BATH with just a little emoji barely covering their private parts. i was so shocked and commented that she should please reconsider the post and to take it down or censor her children completely, and i mentioned that videos of children in the bath are one of the biggest things that predators look for on social media. she just deleted my comment and kept the post up. the blatant disregard for your own children’s safety is just baffling to me.

I do all these thing. I grew up with "old internet" before social media and it was drilled into our heads not to share personal info online. I'm still shocked how normalized it is to share your real names now

my friend posted her car with full license plate visible on REDDIT. I told her and she fought me - girl will get stalked and then come to me with a pikachu face

And this is also why we can't be taking pictures of random people on the street. There are plenty of people who are in hiding from stalkers and then you're accidentally blasting their information

I’ve been called an Internet ghost because of how little social medias I use and what I post.

It’s pretty important to be secretive online
