How about we drastically limit government waste and spending. That's at least 3 trillion right there. And Mr. Silver isn't correct. American made items will not be taxed and the money stays in the country.

Yes, in the short run tariffs do raise prices in the short run. They do not effect the prices of products made inside the country. Historically the rise in price on imported products being raised, causes a reduction in sales on those imported goods. At the same time the demand does not lower. So with the demand and locally produced supply at or near constant. It increases the demand for the local products that are now lower priced than the imports. This generates an increase in local production, which not only will lower the price of locally produced goods as our production capability increases to meet demands, but keeps American wealth circulating inside of our nation. This promotes an increase in domestic jobs, and a decrease in the amount of wealth leaving our nation on consumer goods. For years the U.S. has lost wealth due to outsourcing and cheap foreign goods. This is a major factor in the depreciation of the U.S. dollar. This is why historically, tarriff's create a relatively small short term price hike on goods while American companies build the manufacturing and infrastructure systems to fill the national demand. After that short term price hike prices also historically drop back down as American companies that have switched back to local production take in increased sales and reach the point that we have surplus production to export.This decreases inflation, because we are no longer sending our wealth outside the nation, and increase our national profits through exporting excess goods. If you want two very good examples of this, look at the American economy after both the world wars. Those were points in time where the U.S. was geared up for production of goods, and sales of foreign produced items were extremely down. At the same time our production excesses were exported. This caused American wealth to stay in the U.S. and we took in the wealth of other countries. Q.E.D. these are also the two periods of our countries highest economic growth ever. So my opinion is the short price hike of consumer goods until our own production capabilities are geared up towards production ends in those prices dropping back down while national wealth increases. It's also the only historically proven way to reverse inflation and bring worth back to our currency, and by doing so increase the wealth of the average american.

American made products wouldn't have tariffs it seems, 10% on imports, 60% on Chinese goods. Corporate taxes to 20% from 21%. This in turn would mean American companies would pay more taxes through increased revenue via spending on American products through increased disposable income from Americans! We would have to do the math but it seems as though it benefits all Americans. This also makes sure truly everybody pays their fair share! 50% of Americans pay Little to no income tax!
