Student: What is Phototropism?
Teacher:Many plants and some other organisms such as fungi, exhibit a tendency to grow toward a light source.
This movement or growth of plants towards light is called phototropism.
Plant hormones called Auxins trigger cellular changes and swelling inside the plant, causing it to move toward the light.
Plant shoots exhibit positive phototropism as they grow towards light, while roots exhibit negative phototropism and grow away from light.
Shoots of some plants like vines grow away from the light and seek dark objects to climb. This process is called skototropism.
