Mechanisms of Plant Growth

We've gone over the various tiers of structure of a plant, from cells, to tissues, to organs and organ systems. Now it's time to better understand how plants grow. How to plants know when to grow? How do they know which direction to grow? All of this is regulated by plant hormones, which are signaling molecules, just like the ones that we have in our bodies, though they are totally different molecules than ours. Auxin, cytokinin, gibberellins, abscisic acid, and ethylene, what do these molecules do? What is gravitropism? What is phototropism? Let's learn all this and more!

Does anyone know the name of the process by which plants adjust to be able to accommodate more light over a long period of time? For example, Monstera Deliciosa can be seen growing in full Hawaiian sun, but can burn from a couple hours of Midwestern direct sun through a window. They can be acclimated to more intense light slowly, but im curious by what mechanism this is possible.

Thank you!

I used to think that one of them made the plant grow vertically and one made them grow horizontally... these hormones will never make sense
