Although this may be working at the moment, we are actively working toward a more permanent solution. Stimming is something that will naturally change as she grows, we just want to make sure it does not turn into a different unhealthy habit. If you are looking to try these mesh thumb guard gloves, they are tagged in this video.

I love how when she first realized she couldn't suck her thumb and you reinforced that the gloves weren't going to come off, she went in for a hug. I saw that as her continuing to seek out a source of comfort to ease her growing distress💚

She engages with the world around her. She said "car" and climbed into her seat. She's chatting and putting on her shoes. You guys are doing an amazing job.

It’s possible that the gloves also reduce sensory overload in a way. My friend’s autistic son won’t touch certain things because he doesn’t like the feeling on his skin. He actually starting eating things he previously refused to eat once they gave him little gloves to wear to touch the food with.

Would strongly recommend getting Mikko in speech and language therapy ASAP if you’re able. She’s clearly very smart and is actually trying very hard to communicate verbally which is amazing. I’m extremely anti credentialism and don’t believe certifications give folks magical powers. But I’ve seen lots of therapists with experience help kids tremendously.

@2:11 she’s like “see that momma? Right there’s my thumb. I just need a help getting this thing off…” 🤣 She’s absolutely precious and as a pediatric nurse I’m just so impressed with how well Mikko does with interacting, showing affection, following directions, being in tune with you and calming down with deep breaths when she’s upset, the list goes on. You should be so proud momma - you’re giving Mikko quality of life and that’s *everything* 💜

I have to say both mama and papa are sooo mellow! I think both parents being so patient and mellow also helps baby excel in her learning process.Kiddos to both parents.

thank you, from one autistic person, for treating miko with kindness and helping her find healthier stims without stopping this behaviour. thank you for working with her autism rather than against it, like i see so many times across the internet from other autistic parents.

Miko is making so many postive strides!! It is such a pleasure to see how gratified she becomes when she meets another step towards her independance. You and your husband are a wonderful support for her!! 💞

i really love how you’re not stopping Mikko from stimming but trying to get her to find another healthier stim. watching you raise Mikko with acceptance, understanding and accommodations is so healing for me as a late diagnosed autistic adult who didn’t have that growing up

keep us updated please 🥰🤍

I’m new here but this channel is healing something in me.

laying in bed unable to thumbsuck, she still began self soothing by exploring the gloves. they look soft, they might actually be a great way to redirect stimming to avoid dental issues and germs. im so glad she has someone doing their best to accommodate her, too many of us never had that and struggled without DX our entire lives and are still begging to feel understood and seen. I might be crying a little.
