How to SETUP a Fly Fishing Reel! Add Backing & Fly Line! 2020

In this video tutorial, I show you how to set up a fly fishing reel. The first step is how to attach the backing to your fly reel via a slip knot. The second step is how to connect the fly line to your backing with a nail knot tutorial. I used 70 yards of 30lb backing and Piscifun Sword fly line. Be sure to check out the knot tying tool that I used and the UV cure that we'll help solidify your backing to your fly line. Fly fishing is fun and if you are looking to challenge yourself, this could be a great way to step out of your comfort zone. All of these tips are perfect for fly fishing beginners who want to learn how to add backing and fly line to a fly reel in 2020.

Hey guys I’m so hyped about this it’s what I wanted to see ya do ! I just bought my new 10 wt 9’ ugly stick fly rod and high capacity Okuma SLV 10-11 reel from gator Jim’s last week and set it up with 350yds of high visibility yellow 30 lb backing and an 10 wt, weight forward Ovis line with a taperd 10 ft 16 lb tippet, it’s bad ass, I to have not tossed a 10 wt rod and line so it’s new for me to, y’all need to get by some open flats and practice on double hall’n and Accuracy before you go for them poon’s ! ( josh you might want to get some distance between you and Chris when he starts buggy whipp’n 🤣). Tight lines guys !

Thank you. Perfect vid for a beginner. I purchased a beginner set up and it had no instruction as to how to assemble it. All the fancy “pro dude” vids were over complicated.
While I did not have that little tool to make the knot, I just used a pair of fine tweezers.

To be honest I'm watching your video cause I am 3D model artist and I wanted to learn how the line is spooled on to the reel. I made a 3d fly reel and I wanted to make sure that I got the idea of how it works. your video was the only one I found that has more information based on what I need so thank you for that.

I bought a cheap pflueger set up, it said everything needed to start fishing. Then I realized it only had backing on the reel, and the drag didn't work. 🤦
