(Edit: GEEZ, okay, you like these ones!) There's bound to be a great many new Ultramarine Captains in the next couple of weeks - it seems to happen every year! READ MORE:

Starting your own army of miniatures can be daunting, and it seems there's hundreds of different ways of painting them. Ultimately, this is true! But part of the fun of tackling your own painting projects is in finding a style that works for you and gets models on the table in a way that you find appealing. Here's one of mine where it comes to getting Ultramarines on the table in no time at all and with a minimum of fuss and paints - you could base your own differently, of course!

How I Paint Things is a series of simple instructional videos designed to help the newcomer through some of the basics and demonstrate how the very simplest techniques can still give you some great results that're easily replicated. Aimed at the beginner to painting miniatures, there might be one or two tips or tricks that help even you old hands!

I painted my first mini today, using the tips in this video. Took me longer than twenty minutes. It doesn’t look *quite* as good as yours, but I’m very happy with how it turned out. Thanks for all the work you put into this channel!

WHERE WERE VIDEOS LIKE THIS WHEN I PAINTED MINIATURES AS A KID BACK IN THE 80S!!! Great work!

What do you mean, "This won't win any awards"?... That looks amazing! You won an award with me, I want to paint minis as good as you!

I think this was the first tutorial video I watched over a year ago now when I got back into the hobby. Like a fool I ignored it and listened to the edge highlighting mafia. Since then I've painted less than 50 minis and now have a massive pile of potential glory. With the time I have as a Dad, it would take me years to paint a fieldable army. I'm so glad I rediscovered this video. Thank you!

My son (8) and I just got the leviathan set, and I've been looking at an achievable painting method for him to use to approach painting his new SM force with minimal help from me. This looks perfect - thank you!

I dont know why but there is just something so satisfying about the way you put the gold on the shoulder pads, Its like its just too clean.

Love these new videos. One thing a lot of people forget is if you super detail your rank and file it doesn't let the leaders, SGT's, LT., CPT., or HQ units progressively stand out the way they should.

I'm buying models for an Ultramarine army so I'm watching as many painting videos as I can. This one looks so nice.

the idea of letting the black primer show through the blue rather than painting the entire thing blue and using a wash or whatever to panel-line blew my mind.

Not only the technic is good and easy, your way of story telling is perfect, nice and clear. Thank you for your effort.

I have seen a lot of painting video on doing the Primaris smurf army quickly, and this is probably the best. Two powerful techniques you demonstrated will give best results with least amount of fuss. Starting from a dark to lighter is the trick, but powerful tool.. and dry brushing for quick results. I do the same but instead of dry brushing the blue, I do it with air brushing, not as straight forward as your example, but gives the best blending of colors. Then just finish up with a small amount of edge highlighting with a small dry brush, finishing touches are the guns and badges. good work.

I've decided this is the guide I'm going to use and listen to when I paint my first space marines. The process is very straight forward and I can only hope someday mine look like that

Yes this is worth another. Doing Orks like this is a good idea imo. When you're like me, you want to churn through Boyz super quick and that makes layering them decidedly sub optimal.
