No More Mixing: German Grenadiers with Vallejo Xpress [How I Paint Things]

When Citadel's Contrast came out, I spent a couple of weeks tweaking, testing, and adjusting the ratios on a bottled mix of three different colours to get 'Contrast Feldgrau.' It looks pretty good, but it's definitely a lot more tweaking and fuss than I'd prefer out of a 'one coat' solution. Enter Vallejo Xpress' Wave 2 releases - the colours I think we were all waiting for!

Are they the magic bullet? I guess that depends on how this all looks to your eye! But it certainly fits the bill for me!

The rifle looks so real, it is definitely a nice colour for painting wood.

What a very big time saver and an excellent look to boot. I might have looked for a more field green colour for the uniform but that doesn't detract from an excellent tutorial.

That is superb! I’m a recent convert to Xpress thanks to your vids, Ifind them easier to work with than Speedpaint. I appreciate the extra touches and detail that you give to your figures, a satisfying attention to detail without being a rivet counter.

Wow, it looks so good! Thanks for sharing this experimentation! And the release of the second wave of Vallejo Express somehow escaped my attention - looks like there is some paint buying in my future. 🙂

Thank you for posting that with such immaculate timing – my grenadiers arrive this week and I'm off to my FLGS tonight, so can pick up the paints. 😊

Thank you for this! I am getting ready to paint some Warlord German Grenadiers so this was a very useful video. Should make the painting quicker and better!

So glad I found your tutorials. I bought the express paints and speed paints but was rarely using them if at all. Not anymore!!! I looked but couldn’t find just a normal grey German soldier. Did I miss it? Thank you thank you!!

It's a classic mid-war grenadier, its camo is an early war 's zeltbahn, and the rifle seems one of the first semi -auto that the Wermacht tried on the Eastern front. Would be interesting seeing how these new colours are with some of the more famous camos, such as the "Oak Leaf" one, either the Autumn or the Spring version.👍
