(1262) Challenge: Jacob's Tips to Kwikset

Показать описание
In this video we'll see Jacob's Tips to Kwikset to improve their junky locks and upgrade their lock picking resistance.

Whipped videos highlight custom made locks sent to the LockLab as a challenge. They contain innovative modifications, unique security designs, and careful craftsmanship. Challenge lock design is difficult, to say the least, but many LockSporters excel in lock design and hand craftsmanship. Because there is such innovation among LockSporters, many manufacturers pay attention to the WHIPPED videos and incorporate the security techniques into their own locks.

There is only ONE RULE: The key must work. You are free to cover up the key to prevent me from seeing it until after I successfully pick (or fail to pick) the lock. I will make THREE 10-minute attempts (down from six 10-minute attempts in April 2018). If I fail to open it in that time, it will become a WHIPPED video. If you are interested in sending a challenge lock, please use this address:

Excellent work Jacob! Lots of time and skill in making those pins! If it weren't for Bill's trusty "good luck cat hair", you may have had him! Nice job as always Bill, your skill never ceases to amaze me!

I think the cats should be in the shop more, they can help move the small parts from the tray to the floor!

I have a kwikset pair of deadbolt locks that I found at a re-store shop. I haven't taken it apart yet but I think it's stock and has a Super paracentric almost 90degree bends on the keyway with what I think is spools in 2/4 and serrations on pin 3 and pin 1 doesn't seem to bind no matter what, I don't think I've even come close to getting it open. I know they can be brute forced open with a steel shank but if you have the equipment to force open a lock and don;t mind destructive methods there's much easier ways to get into a house.

Love your videos! If you keep on your table a large magnifying glass it will be easier to see details without bring it closer to camera or worry about the focus.

Did I see some pins on the side of the core? Around 11:52-12:00 in the video it looks like pins on the side under your thumb.

Out of all the locks ive made i know and i hope others do when you cut a pin to its max depth it literally sits flush on the shear line with this lock you just had to pick pin 3 and pin 5 and open, the top pins of 1, 2 and 4 had no effect because they were already at the shearline.

The real secret is that you are a very excellent lock picker.

I pump out some pretty decent pins with nothing more than a 16k rpm rotary tool and some files/steak knives, oh and some tiny (3/64 and 1/16) drill bits held with a pair of vice grips for boring holes to make pin in pins. Obviously it would be easier with a better setup, but mine gets the job done for being a relatively cheap one.

I am going to buy a bike soon. Do you know of a good bike lock that does not cost much? $50-$100 is my budget.
