I heard that Judy didn't want to do this movie first because she was getting tired of playing the usual teenage girl but when she read the script, she fell in love with it and decided "one more wouldn't hurt".

O'Brien was one of the few child actors who didn't seem to act. She seems totally in her element, just having fun.

Watching a vincente Minnelli film was like looking at one of the world's great paintings full of great colours and great composition. ANYBODY who thinks that film is not art should see this as well as minellis other films as well as the works of John Ford and Michael curtiz.THEY WOULD DEFINITELY CHANGE THEIR MIND. Judy garland and Margaret obrien where a great pair of performers. And they and Joan Carroll and Mary astor are the stand outs in that great cast. Don't miss this great film. From Michael from Yorkshire and proud of it.

One of Garland‘s best performances! During the filming of Meet Me in St. Louis, Garland and Minnelli had an initial falling out, but they soon started a relationship and married on June 15, 1945.

Liza arrived in 1946!

Haha, I wish I could just ask someone if they wanted an introduction and then play one on command! ;)

Judy is so beautiful in this film. She always has been. It makes me sad that she has been told ‘fat and ugly’ consistently during her time working in hollywood and was told that she is not pretty enough. I remember hearing an interview with her one time that her being in this film is one of the few times she felt truly beautiful. RIP Judy. You deserve better.

Lyrics
*ESTHER*
Down in the jungles lived a maid
Of royal blood though dusky shade
*TOOTIE*
A marked impression once she made
Upon a Zulu
*ESTHER*
From Matabooloo
*TOOTIE*
And every morning he would be
Down underneath the bamboo tree
*ESTHER*
A Waitin' there his love to see
*TOOTIE*
And then to her he's sing
*BOTH*
To her he'd sing
If you like-a me, like I like-a you and we like-a both the same
I like-a say this very day, I like-a change your name.
'Cause I love-a you and lov-a you true and if you-a love-a me
One live as two, two live as one
Under the bamboo tree
