Divided into a series of seasonal vignettes, starting with Summer 1903, it relates the story of a year in the life of the Smith family in St. Louis, leading up to the opening of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (more commonly referred to as the World's Fair) in the spring of 1904.
The movie was adapted by Irving Brecher and Fred F. The film was directed by Vincente Minnelli, who met Garland on the set and later married her.

For everyone commenting on how amazing house parties looked in the 1940s, this is a movie made in 1944 that takes place in 1903 during the St. Louis World's Fair.

My favorite part is when she starts singing her partners’ names, Charliiiie...”
I always rewind for that

I liked when Johnny was singing "Lost my Partner" there was a girl in the back dancing all by herself, but he ultimately went to Judy, because it shows he really wanted to dance with her.

I love Judy Garland and this is the best version of Skip to My Lou that I've ever heard!. Judy's vocals are absolutely astonishing and the harmonies of the background vocalists are beautiful! Wonderful movie !

I was born in St Louis in 1940, my dad was a streecar motorman on the line which went behind the back yard of the Smith household on Kensington and, yes, this is what house parties were like right into the late 1950s and early 1960s. By the way, the parents were always there and the eats divine.

I can’t keep my eyes off Judy. She’s just a beam of perfection and her talent is so effortless and natural.

What a time to have been alive!

So clean cut, so respectful of each other. I was born 100 years too late.

That girl that’s like “I’ll find another prettier than you, go to another party” is a beast

The Technicolor is absolutely gorgeous. It was an expensive process but the results are stunning. If you haven't noticed, often today's films are very dark and smokey. They have a dystopian feel to them. This reflects our very pessimistic and ugly attitude as opposed to the bright, colorful and positive film presentation of Americans in the midst of the greatest war in human history. And, of course, we are the ones drowning in our own affluence and obesity.

Six years later, I still have the dance memorized from when I performed it in high school.

2:15 I've always wondered if Judy Garland forgot the next steps at that part, she looks a bit lost for a few seconds

One of Garland‘s best performances! During the filming of Meet Me in St. Louis, Garland and Minnelli had an initial falling out, but they soon started a relationship and married on June 15, 1945.

Liza arrived in 1946!

I remember renting this video from my local library as they had shown it on PBS and I just had to rewatch it. Love seeing this movie each year.
