Building a chum with Siberia’s Nenets nomads | SLICE

The chum is THE traditional temporary dwelling of the Nenets - the last reindeer breeders of the Great Siberian North.

In the freezing cold of Siberia, we brought our cameras and joined their family in this moment of gathering, to observe each step of this home in the making.

No comment, just sit, watch and get warm.

Absolutely love the Nenets people. If I had a different life I’d love to come back as a Nenet man. I’ve always been fascinated by the people above the Arctic Circle and think they have achieved a special kind of peace and oneness with nature there. Just look how they treat and revere their reindeer. It’s very touching

One of the nice things of life in Arctic is you don't need any refrigerator to store your food. I like how they chopped wood and then with the same axe chopped meat for dinner. I will try it to impress my wife.
