GameMaker flew me out to Gamescom in Germany to show off PokeyPoke! I got to show off the game, get tons of valuable playtest insights, meet loads of cool GameMaker (and other!) devs and had an all-round amazing time.

Alright, let's get it over with. So I obviously have changed how I look, how I dress and how I present over the last couple of years. I very deliberately have not mentioned this in my content. Because it's my own business and has nothing to do with making video games, and doesn't change my work and I don't want it to be the thing people focus on, care about or argue about in the comments. But yes! it's an open secret that I'm very happily non-binary and prefer dressing and generally being more feminine than masculine both aesthetically and socially. I go by They/Them. It's been on my twitter for years, it's on my patreon, it's on my website. Blah blah. Now you know.

Obviously for me, going to such a large public event dressed like this, was initially quite a nerve-wracking experience. But I received so many completely unprompted compliments on my outfits and makeup and got so much love from everyone at the event pretty much universally and it was awesome. So once again a huge thank you to all the lovely people I met at Gamescom you really helped me feel confident, loved and accepted.

Much love to the many assorted genderqueers and trans folk I know are in my audience, and sorry I am not as "visible" as I could perhaps be. But I don't think that role is for me. I'm just me, and the way I want to be involves making this whole thing be the tiny, "who cares", irrelevant thing that I dream one day it will truly be accepted as being. =)

I've been watching and learning from this channel for years now.

Ive had plenty of struggles that has affected my programming. Mostly running into odd bugs i cant figure out how to fix, but these tutorials help me get into a better focused mindset when coding and even a lot of the tutorials show me small pieces i need.

That feel when as the game designer you see someone playing your game and you're thinking "you're not playing it right".
When they discover an exploit or different movement techniques through testing.

I was looking on your channel for an old tutorial and wow! so happy to see you being and expressing yourself. You're tutorials have seriously got me into game maker and I used to watch them all the time when I was younger, they were such a huge help. I was just revisiting them to work on a game making project, so a huge thanks to you, I just watched that text box video for the older version of game maker and it saved my ass years later lol. Take care and thanks!

Given that I've learned 80% of what I know about GMS and GML by watching your videos, I am so happy to see how well Pokey Poke is doing!
Cant wait to see it when its done.

It's comforting to hear you're so optimistic about Gamemaker's future! Also great to see the wonderful reception of Pokey Poke. If I had been there, I'd have been yet another person to shower you with thanks for your tutorials.

That sounds like it was an amazing time! I'm so glad you got that opportunity and that everyone showered you with all the well deserved appreciation :) I, too, am one of those that you've helped start their game dev journey. Your tutorials help to understand how GM works, how to structure code and things to keep in mind while building your game (on top of the "thing" it's about too :D ). Keep being your beautiful self and kicking ass with all that you do! Much love and thanks! <3

Thank you for helping me get into game dev! While I have no game to show for it I still hope to one day make a game that I am proud of. I have seen many of your tutorials and PokeyPoke looks really awesome!

I have been making a game for a few months now, and games like yours have inspired me to do so! I have always wanted to do something artistic in life, weather it be art or music or anything else of the sort, and you have shown me a magical way to implement all of those into one career. Thank you so much from opening my eyes to gamemaker, to showing mw how to make a basic platformer. You may feel lonely sometimes, but i will be waiting patiently for your inspiring devlogs and tutorials, and i will always be thankful for your channel.

I've been occasionally watching your progress of PokeyPoke for a few years now. Great video! I love this update, and I am super excited to eventually play the full version. Keep up the good work!

Maybe you could market the game as "The Hardest Platformer" because that would get people interested to see if they could beat it? Anyway your tutorials really helped me when I started Gamemaker, so its nice to see that you got all the thanks you deserved at Gamescom.

Just watched one of your other videos about mistakes to avoid and saw gameplay in the background and immediately thought it looked like a great idea for movement with a spear. Cool to see its your own game PokeyPoke.
