Lore is the epitome of player engagement it adds to the immersion in such a massive way, wether you are interested in it or not, just being surrounded in it will bring you into the game and give you a specific nostalgic feeling.

World of Warcraft used to do this, and then they lost its touch over its years after cataclysm more and more. Love to see more of it. It Makes league feel more than just a game.
