How it feels to learn Third Strike in 2023

Today we're simulating the experience of playing Street Fighter 3: Third Strike as a new player in ranked. We'll be hopping in with a brand new account and seeing how long it takes me to rank up to the point to the point where I feel that players start to really become skilled. Today I'll be playing Urien in these matches, but let me know if there are other characters you'd like to see me try in 3s!

This video was inspired by @Brian_F's Road to Warlord series which you can watch here:

I've only played a little third strike but god i cant stop watching it. It's so thrilling. I don't know if it's the animations or the parries but it just feels so... true. It feels like I'm really watching digital martial arts

"how it feels to learn SF3S in 2023" is getting the shit kicked outta you by dudes who have played the game for 37 years.

I just love how simple you make a fighting game with so many technical details (for a newcomer like me)

I got to C rank on fightcade last week after being stuck in D rank for forever. Third Strike is such a fun game to grind.

I say this as a COMPLETE beginner, but that unblockable setup you did during the character overview is absurdly hard. TTH is impossibly hard too. I practiced for close to 10h and got TTH once in training mode, let alone any setups. The beginner experience is moreso spamming normals, dropping motion inputs and feeling utterly and completely lost. This just ain't how getting into 3S felt like to me.

I'm so glad this is the fighting game that my friends made popular amongst our classmates in high school. This made it my the first fighting game I truly got deep into. Especially 2007 and senior year 2008, we had a lot of active players in town

Everybody loves watching the come up. I just said this on Brian's community post about road to warlord popping off, but it's such an easy to follow storyline it's easy to watch and enjoy. It's also hype to see you learning a new character at the same time, and I'm realizing I get to live all my charge character dreams vicariously through you. I just can't commit to changing up how I play for that archetype but they're so cool so often, and it's super frustrating.

Great idea, I'd love to see more of this as a series on the channel! Never enough 3S content

Feel like most fighting games that are still played, but are quite old, have a really serious BARRIER for anyone not already a storied veteran. You're walking into a school full of blackbelts, and you've got your yellow, goin' "uh...so, let's spar!"

Always love the positivity, you don’t always see players compliment their opponents and you’re consistently good at that

Love this format JM. I've seen a few videos where you have lamented being stuck in C rank and this video series is the answer.

Keep going! Those matches were awesome! It shows off Fightcade's matchmaking, and what someone coming in fresh can expect.

Niiiice! It's a very interesting challenge because nobody does retro games ranking-up on public. I've never seen anything like this. Good luck! Looking forward to the future episodes

Before fightcade existed there was a much smaller community on another service like 15 years ago, I played at like 3am local time and the only other person online was guy from Egypt who was an absolute demon, I would play him everynight for hours, I don't think I even took a round off him for the first few weeks.

Than I started to take some rounds off him and eventually beat him the odd time

Throwing myself at this demon everynight for like a month made me ok at this game.

He didn't even speak English so no talking just fighting.
