Haptic technology recreates the sensation of touch through forces and vibrations. In this clip from the 2014 CHRISTMAS LECTURES "Sparks will fly: How to hack your home", Danielle George and a young audience member experiment with haptic technology. This piece of kit recreates the feeling of touch by using tiny speakers to create precise ultrasonic vibrations and mould the shape of an object.

The folks who built the pyramids _(not the Egyptians; they found the pyramids)_ knew of this "type" of technology and used it levitate massive blocks of granite etc etc
And yes they had wires like we do today etc etc
The funny thing is that they were still more advanced than we are today.

You are not supposed to put your hands in an ultrasonic jeweler cleaner when it's on as some hours later the finger joints can become very painful. I'd be concerned with prolonged exposure from this type of interface.
