I've gone through more portable drill guides than I can remember. Most were garbage and hardly ever saw use. IMO these are the only one's I would buy again.

1) 0:54 Big Gator steel blocks. A bit expensive but well made. I own 3 different models. These things are solid blocks of steel and the STD1000DGNP model has hole sizes every 1/64". It is much better than the milescraft version (which I also own).

2) The new Rockler #52885 Portable Drill Guide (same as Axminster version). Again, expensive, but you will understand why once you see it in person. It's twice the size and weight of other twin rail type guides. All my previous complaints on wobbly, cheap, plastic guides were addressed with this all-metal beast.

3) The not-yet released Woodpeckers Auto-line drill guide. It looks like a great tool and judging by Woodpeckers attention to detail and guessing it will be fantastic. Woodpeckers usually gets a good chunk of my money so I wouldn't be surprised to own this in the future.

I bought the Milescraft 1318 for less than $40.00 and I like it a lot. It works fine. Anybody who pays $370.00 for a Woodpecker drill guide is an idiot and that's not just my opinion, that's a fact.
