Spain floods: 'Mind-blowing' drone video reveals scale of destruction

Drone footage showed the tangled wreckage of dozens of vehicles strewn across rail tracks in Alfafar, a suburb outside the city of Valencia.

"It's all destroyed, shops, supermarkets, schools, cars," said local resident Patricia Villar. Close by, a boat that had been carried by the floodwaters lay on a muddy street corner. "It's mind-blowing," she said.

In Valencia, the eastern region that bore the brunt of the devastation, about 500 soldiers were deployed to hunt for people who are still missing and help survivors of the storm, which triggered a fresh weather alert in Huelva in southwestern Spain.

The death toll from catastrophic floods rose to 205 people in Europe's worst weather disaster in five decades.

My wife and I have just managed to get home in the early hours of Saturday morning having been trapped in València airport since Tuesday as we were about to fly home. Our travails are nothing to what they have suffered but much love to the wonderful Valencian people and the gorgeous Valencia. We'll see you again. I do feel they have been let down by their authorities. It was chaos; no information but they are good people who will and are pulling together ❤
