Americans were GIANTS in manufacturing. It was outsourced to China when we wanted cheap...but now, there is NO reason to continue the trade game with them. We are self sustainable in EVERY WAY, and till Americans understand and remember that, I say let the trade wars begin!!! Steel and aluminum was mostly outsourced to Russia also. Americans made the best, strongest, most abundant steel on the planet since the dawn of manufacturing. It was only when our government outsourced the work for cheap labor, that it became so needed from other countries. Without our steel, not a damn country around would've had the military hardware or infrastructure they have now. Thanks to Americas trade secrets, every nation benefitted while we sat back and let them steal our jobs, land, business and economy. It wouldn't take much for America to reinstate every manufacturing capability we had. If we did, there wouldn't be a country on Earth that could threaten any part of our society with economic terrorism. China obtained it's wealth, ALL of it, from us and because of us, and it wouldn't be long for them to suffer great economic hardships without us. Our 2 countries are deeply entwined within consumerism. I'm going to research this further and find out all goods that come from there, and all goods we send them. It would be great to know, but I do believe that America could survive a trade war from all fronts, and it would benefit Americans greatly to appreciate all we have, learn what we could live without, and maintain our consumerism within our own nation. Imagine the shipping costs we would save. The World should realize that we are interdependent on each other. If it came down to it all, and all goods we're stopped being imported from China, all goods stopped exporting to China, which country would suffer the most?? China, and it's huge population, does rely on America for the breadth of it's economic development. They're reinstituting old silk trade routes to move away from American trade anyway, let's just see how the world market fares without participation from America. Many many countries would utterly collapse. Americans could survive on our own, making our own junk, keeping our food and water and resources for ourselves and sustain our own country forever, without global threat of destruction. Could other nations say the same? Could they survive without our food and other resources? Could they sustain all aspects of their current economy without USA? I think they would be quite disappointed with the outcomes.
