Dmitry Ivanov, an anti-Kremlin activist, has been jailed for over eight years after criticising and publicising the invasion of Ukraine on social media, in an act Russia calls "misinforming".

Last year, the Kremlin passed a law making it illegal to publish what it says is false information about its war in Ukraine - which it calls a "special military operation".

"This is what having no freedom of speech actually means. Endless detentions, endless court hearings, the relentless one-way march of justice!"

Russian lawyers must feel like clowns, participating in a circus with no real justice.

I wish this man nothing but goodwill and strength for the future as I'm sure the powers that be will make his life hell. He is a brave man and I just wish there were more like him in Russia.

As a Ukrainian "nationalist" - I would happily swap every free thinking Russian, for every pro-russia "ukrainian" left in our borders. Lets have a swap. Subject to all abiding by national laws, and not propagating for the other country's interests. Not complicated I think

In America, we know the cost of freedom and how fragile of a balancing act it is. It could be gone in the blink of eye, which is why fighting for it, even domestically, is our number one priority.

We know Dmitry, we know Russia isn't Putin and we know there are many good people in Russia that want a democratic world.
The only issue is, the people that feed on power and evil energy keep taking control of Russia and that has to end, for good. If not we will keep repeating this cycle for centuries and now days the world is getting too small for that kind of behavior.

Russia is not Putin, however Russia is still the same. If there was not Putin, some one else would attack Ukraine too. It is all about national interest

23 years for a post…. Freedom never free but seems to cost more for those that reach the hardest…. Never give in never give up never quit

One Putin, but there are millions of Russian people --what have these Russian people done to stop Putin? Not much.

I second this man! Get rid of (not only Puntin) communism, dictatorship’s and repression and Russia will thrive as it’s a beautiful country with mostly very nice people! Russia is unfortunately a waste of a great country full of potential 🥺

Sure not all of Russia is Putin, but a damn big chunk of them sure happily drink his Kool aid. Just look at the street interview from channels like 1420.

I feel sorry for the guy because actually Russia IS Putin at the moment

The problem is, more Russian people seem to reject democracy than embrace it. And more Russians seem to divorce themselves from the politics that they’ve been sleeping with. The courageous ones noted above seem to be in the minority.

Well, most of russia is putin and the rest doesn't care Russian imperialism, they just want another kind of strong leader. Believe me. I've had a lot Russian acquaintances including those who are against putin and war and want democracy.
