Once, when I was a high schooler, I was trying to read a book on an airplane and another student sitting next to me, who had already annoyed me with his previous comments/behaviour and constantly going on about weed, interrupted my activities just to have this conversation:

Him: What are you doing?
Me: Reading.
Him: Oh, I don't like books.

Look, I love symbolism and allegory and over-analyzing media, so even if the author goes on record saying "The curtains REALLY WERE just blue, " I'd still continue reading into it because it makes me happy and just makes stories more interesting to me.

I have had people be all smug at me when asking if I’ve read all of the books I own, then I’d point to the bookshelf with all of the books I had read and they’d look upset like they don’t have a “gotcha, you pretentious person!” anymore.
