On the pencil vs pen discussion: If you also pack a small pencil sharpener it can also double to provide tinder if you can't find any. All you need is a stick to fit in the sharpening hole and you get easy thin curls.

If you require the shelter for the course just work the price into the course and have one supplied for participants. It would save on shipping and packaging and you would single handily save the world.

Man I’ve been watching this dude for a good bit but I just learned today he was a contestant on Alone! I started with the most recent season and have been working my way backwards and just got to season 3 😂

"I'm lost! I've gone to find myself. If I should come back before I return, please ask me to wait!" Jarbidge, USA.

The intro lead to this random thought! Thanx Dan! Now I'll go watch the video!

I've been an on again/off again hobbyist woodworker since I was young, helping my dad in the shop. There's not really anything new here that I haven't already figured out myself or been taught, except having a tourniquet handy, that's not something I had ever even considered, but seeing all these safety tips put together in one concise video is definitely a good refresher and I'd go so far as to say this should be a must watch for anyone getting into woodworking or for any parent to show their kids that want to help them in the shop. Even after working with table saws, miter saws, radial arm saws, etc. For 50+ years, I still get flutters in my stomach when I fire one up, a little bit of fear can mean the difference between having all your fingers at the end of the day or not.

We used pencils to check in on our helicopter missions. Ink bleeds in water was the reasoning behind it. So, I would suggest using pencil for your journal entries.

I like that you are making these videos for upcoming classes

Interesting note about Bic lighters. When they run out of fuel, they still have a lot of flint left in them. About 3/16 of flint still in them.

I think Bushcraft based survival training is interesting and at times useful. Having recently been in a real world survival situation where my dog almost died I would say that when the rubber meets the road you'd better hope you aren't depending on a ferro rod and a big knife.

If you use a ZIPPO lighter, you can use the flint from a bic. Take the flint out of the empty bic, and cut it in half. You can also crush the flints from several empty bics and use it to help make a fire.✌🏻

Use braided fishing line in a sewing kit. You can use the fishing line to sew with, if you carry needles and a spool of braided line with hooks. You would have a combination kit.

Bank line.
Snap blade knife.
Hard candy.
Whistle.
All are cheap and lightweight.

Tip: wrap the duct tape around the bic.
