Cyborg Brain!

DARPA unveiled plans to invest $60 million over the next four years in a program to bridge the gap between the human brain and computers. The goal is to develop a biocompatible device capable of translating thought into computer code at rapid speed. The potential applications of such technology are awesome - from therapies that could help a blind person to see, to a world where people can interface with computers just by thinking!

Is this a precursor to cyborgs? Do you envision a future where enhanced human beings will interact seamlessly with the technology around them?

"Imagine a world where finally we can understand each other" would be the tagline.

Also I wanna add that I think it will not be far in the future (mostly in 10 years) that we will see human augmented abilities made possible by machine human hybridization. In my opinion it is the natural evolution after the internet of things.

Putting a chip into people's brain is the first step to making a science fiction horror movie.

A good rule of thumb is that the government's covert state of the art technology is about 100 years ahead of what they're willing to discuss publicly.

I believe the military developed, and a implemented a Cybernetic Brain in 1998. Then it was wireless, and interfaced with the brain. Today, streaming media, and neurally interactive, shared human experiences. So DARPA wants to encourage innovation in the private. Can't wait to see....

i always did think that brain implants to interact with technology directly was the next big step in technology. cant wait until we can find a way to view media without a screen.

Let me improvise, how about mixing emotive epoc & tattoo electronic circuits on a bold head. That would eliminate the need for an implant. Not to mention that reading human thought in its self was proven to not need direct contact with neural cells. But sending info back to the brain, that's totally a whole new story. But I discovered lately that a lot of prosthetics developers succeeded in connecting a working robo-arm with feedback sensors. That's by definition a successful example of back and forth communication between an electronic device and our brain, despite the face that it is on a very small level but it is a good start

this is honestly terrifying. all i can think of is a kid's book called Feed that had the scenario of if we all had chips in our heads. Its really scary and totally relevant. I would never get a chip in my head if it wasn't absolutely necessary.

This is very useful to me, because I'm writing a boo about just this! About the first cyborg, the first person to be part machine. It's interesting to hear some of the real life research for that!

as soon as there's a money making application it will expand into that industry. My hope and dream, fully immersive VR.
