My grandfather died in this battle. 60th infantry 9th division. He's buried over there, hopefully get to see his grave in person someday.

The censorship of historical events is utter madness! My grandfathers did not help defeat the axis forces so that the conditions they endured could be blurred to protect the "feelings" of weak individuals! People MUST be horrified and disturbed by war, or their sacrifices were for not!

Dad, Colonel C.A. Lichirie, was in the 10th Armored Division, 3rd Army under General Patton at the Battle of the Bulge and rarely spoke of his wartime experience.

What a waste. Censorship of WWII documentaries is disgraceful.

My family went to the Siegfried Line in 2001 with my father in law. He showed us the dragons teeth in Belgium and said that Germany ran out of warm bodies to man the line by the time he arrived. He died and was cremated in 2002. He's carried shrapnel in his body after his involvement in 1944 so there was metal in with his ashes.

My first cousin Jack Treadwell took 6 pill boxes on the Siegfried Line and received the MOH for his action.

Hurtgen forest was a nightmare, as stated in the doc. Cannot understand why the Americans didn't bypass it? Five US infantry divisions were shredded. The "Battlefield" series was excellent.

The short camera shots showing the captured pistols/holsters in a pile explains why those brought home rarely matched. Once brought in they were usually put in seperate piles and the grunts who wanted one rooted through the holster pile for any that would more or less fit his pistol. The Germans were short of pistols so they adopted a large variety of many different makes from countries they had conquered.

This whole channel just rehashes really old British documentary series. It doesn't even rehash it just plays them and claims them as their own. I guess they bought them. This is just an episode of Battlefield and all of the episodes are available on YouTube and they are a must watch..🎉

My Dad fought in "The Battle of the Bulge". He had 3 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.

There's a few misnomers in this episode.
1. The Falaise Pocket Withdraw by the Germans. It wasn't a haphazard, run for it, by the Germans. They left, unit by unit, under nightfall. Leaving troops behind to cover the withdraw.
If the Allies had been more aggressive and tightened up the pincer move, they would have all but stopped the Germans.
You can sort of compare the Falaise to Dunkirk. Yes the British were trapped. Yes, they should have blown up or destroyed their equipment. But over 300, 000 British and French military were saved.
2. Berlin. Yes, Patton and Bradley wanted to take Berlin. Of course, Montgomery trying to recover from Market Garden, Antwerp and the Seigfried Line, wanted Berlin as well. Eisenhower, however, after the enormous losses at the Siegfried Line and Hurtgen Forest, was extremely concerned about the potential losses taking Berlin. Also, with the death of FDR, Truman trying to get updated who hadn't been part of any major decisions, it was decided to let the Russians lose their blood taking Berlin. Churchill was furious.

I don't understand why YOUTUBE placed the content warning. Also, why some parts are like looking at an overcast sky.
