I always noticed newer yo-yos are balanced better. A lot of my old ones would flop pretty quick even when they still had a fair bit of spin.

Not joking: if you train on the old yo-yo, your muscle memory will be so much more precise than your peers that didn't. Just be sure to work with a yo-yo of near-identical weight.
