We have sort of Knocker-Uppers in some parts of China today. In the suburbs of Northern China, we have these small mobile food vendors, sell buns, popcorns, and other snack, shout in morning to sell.

In the USA, well into the 20th century, people hired calling services who would issue wake-up calls to their clients, calling them on the phone at the time they needed to rise. There was even a musical comedy written in the 1950s called Bells a Ringing which was based on this now historical practice. Evidently this was one of the follow on practices to the knocker-upper using modern technology (phone) instead of rapping on the window with a stick.
